June 2010 - Handling over of power

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to hand over power over to Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak in June 2010 - screamed most headlines in the main stream media. But the announcement met with little excitement among the 600 odds grassroots leaders in audience. Reactions from the floor are rather mute and sombre, there was no drama as that greeted former PM Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in 2002.
Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi says that Datuk Seri Mohd. Najib Tun Razak will lead the Barisan Nasional into the next general elections (schedule for in 2013) as the President of UMNO and Prime Minister than.
In an immediate responds to 'Pak Lah' s announcement Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad says that Najib would never be the Prime Minister as the two years wait will open Najibs to more broadsides of mud-slugging and slander to weaken his claims to the premiership. He even venture to predict that PakLah will lead the BN into an electoral defeat in the 13th General Elections (in 2013) so every hope of Najib becoming Prime Minister will be dashed forever; when UMNO and BN are no more in power.
Potential Presidential Candidate for the upcoming UMNO Elections Tengku Razaliegh Hamzah is of the opinion that Pak Lah should leave the whole process of changing the leadership to the grassroots members and not to try to handover power to the anointed leader of his choice. UMNO belongs to its' members, so it is up to them to decide. Pak Lah should heeded the voices to the grassroots.
